1. Editorial Mission and Values

Purpose

Kompreno exists to make high-quality journalism accessible across languages and borders. The platform promotes informed understanding of complex global issues through curated, translated, and contextualised journalism.

Core Values

Editorial independence – Content must remain free from political, commercial, or ideological influence.

Quality over quantity – Depth, clarity, and reliability are prioritised over speed or volume.

Pluralism and balance – Multiple perspectives should be represented, especially on contested or sensitive topics.

Transparency – Sources, authorship, and translation status must be clearly indicated.

2. Content Standards

Partnerships

Kompreno seeks to work with reputable journalistic sources, well-established editorial brands, and recognised expert publications.

With these, we enter into long-lasting and values-based partnerships that govern the exchange of content licenses and the republication of (translated) content.

All our work is based on permissions and for mutual benefit. There is no indiscriminate “crawling and scraping” of publicly available content.

Content Selection

Only articles from reputable journalistic sources or recognised expert publications established partners (see above) may be selected.

Preference is given to:

• Investigative reporting
• Long-form analysis
• Contextual and explanatory journalism

Opinion pieces may be included only if clearly labelled and sourced from authoritative voices.

Accuracy and Verification

• All factual claims must be verifiable.
• Data, quotes, and references must reflect the original source accurately.
• Any uncertainty or ambiguity in the source material should be preserved, not “smoothed out.”

Original Context

• Articles must be presented within their original context (political, cultural, historical).
• Editorial framing should clarify — not reinterpret — the author’s intent.

3. Translation and Adaptation Policy

Translation Principles

• Translations must be faithful to meaning, tone, and intent — not literal at the expense of clarity.
• Nuances, ambiguities, and stylistic choices should be respected.
• Cultural references may be clarified without altering the substance of the text.

Human Oversight

We use automated and machine learning–based translation technologies, applied individually or in combination with human review processes.

Translations intended for use beyond kompreno’s own service – e.g. for republication by our partners – are always subject to human oversight and quality control.

For translations used exclusively within kompreno’s own service, kompreno applies internal quality assurance measures, including selective human review, prioritised based on factors such as language pair, content complexity, and editorial relevance.

We do not guarantee that all translations are 100% free from errors. However, we continuously improve translation quality through iterative processes, including technological optimisation and human review.

All translated content must undergo human editorial review before publication. Machine-assisted translation may be used, but never published without revision.

Adaptation and Localisation

• If a text is adapted (shortened, contextualised, or explained), this must be explicitly stated.
• Adaptation must not introduce new arguments or remove essential elements of the original piece.

4. Ethical Standards

Neutrality and Responsibility

• Editorial presentation must avoid sensationalism or emotionally manipulative language.
• Headlines and summaries must reflect the content accurately.
• Kompreno does not promote advocacy; it promotes understanding.

Inclusion and Respect

• Language must respect diversity in terms of gender, ethnicity, religion, nationality, and social background.
• Stereotypes, discriminatory framing, or dehumanising language are not acceptable.
• Sensitive topics (violence, migration, conflict, health, identity) require heightened editorial care.

Corrections and Updates

• Errors must be corrected promptly and transparently.
• Updates should be clearly marked with timestamps and explanations where relevant.
• We work with our partners when correcting or updating content.

5. Style and Presentation

Structure

Articles should be clearly structured with:

• Informative headlines
• Subheadings where appropriate
• Short, readable paragraphs

Summaries or introductory notes should help readers understand why the piece matters.

Tone

• Clear, precise, and sober.
• Avoid jargon unless necessary; when used, provide clarification.
• Maintain the original author’s tone whenever possible.

Metadata

Each article must include:

• Original author and publication
• Date of original publication
• Reading length
• Relevant tags/topics

6. Copyright and Rights Management

• All content must comply with copyright law and licensing agreements.
• Original sources must always be credited.
• Usage rights must be verified before publication.
• Kompreno does not alter or republish content in ways that violate authors’ moral or economic rights.

7. Continuous Improvement

• Reader feedback is actively monitored.
• Editorial standards are reviewed periodically.
• Adjustments are made in response to linguistic, ethical, and technological developments.
